Remember Who You Are!

How many of you remember this scene from The Lion King?

Now, I know it’s a bit hokey, and it certainly doesn’t jibe theologically, but follow me on this one:

I think that so many of us as Christ Followers find ourselves inept and defeated because we have allowed ourselves to live in situations that we were never intended to be in. We live in fear, doubt, unforgiveness, coarseness, and so on, when we were meant to live in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. We’ve given up our inheritance for the comfortable life of irresponsibility. We find ourselves bombarded with messages that tell us to live for ourselves when God wants us to live for Him.

So what are we to do? We need to remember who we are. We need to remember that we are heirs of the promise, we are heirs of the riches of God and co-heirs with Christ. We are overcomers who have been granted the armor of God to combat the evil that is in our world. We have been called to be all of this, and if we step out in faith, claiming these promises, there is nothing that we cannot accomplish.

So remember who you are, and don’t forsake reminding each other of who you are. As the old G.I. Joe slogan said, “Knowing is half the battle!”

Life in Pieces

Wisdom is tricky. We think we know something, but we really don't. We think we're on top of things, but we really aren't. The issue at stake most of the time is that we think we know what we know, but we really only know a piece of what we need.

Wisdom is like that. We build upon the things we know, adding to it, and finding out that the things we thought we know aren't really true. As we get to know God in this way, we begin to see more and more of who He really is. We thought we know thus-and-such about God, but the truth of the matter is that we really only knew part of it, and this new revelation of Who God is (in our experience, not from the Scriptures) helps us to see what we previously "knew" about Him in better focus.

So why do I say this all to you? It is because I want you to remember that the quest for God's wisdom is a never ending quest. Keep on reading your Proverbs, keep on studying your Scriptures, keep on seeking the truth, and you will become wise beyond your years...because you will have the wisdom of God.

Celebration Week 6

This week we've heard some hard things for us to hear. I hope that you can find encouragement in what we've said and understand that these things are not said to knock us down and depress us, but to
"spur us on toward love and good deeds." (Hebrews 10:24)

It is also my sincere hope that as you continue to walk in obedience to the Word of God that you read each and every day that you will find yourself continuing to become more holy and more like Jesus. This holiness that you exhibit will be the light that shines to a dark world that denies the very existence of God. We know Him, and to know Him is to love Him and to love Him is to obey Him. So walk in the knowledge, love and obedience of God to a life beyond anything that you could have imagined!

And CELEBRATE!!
